How to Wear Heels Comfortably

You don't have to pay the price of pain to look fabulous. Here are some tips that will help you look good, while remaining comfortable, in heels.

Instructions

Break them in. Walk around your house doing chores, or talking on the phone in your new heels. And try them out on different surfaces. Walk on carpets, tiles, stairs, ramps and concrete.

Find the perfect fit. If you buy shoes that are too small, just because they don't have your size, you are only setting yourself up for pain. The same goes for shoes that are even slightly too big. The fit has to be perfect in order for them to be comfortable.

Go for stilettos. The chunkier heels seem to come and go, so stick with the old stand-by. But be careful about getting heels that are too high. A fall is too high a price to pay for fashion. Being comfortable in heels can be an acquired state. Walking in stilettos can be tricky at first, but practice makes perfect.

Buy inserts. Inserting a cushioning layer into your heels will make them much more enjoyable. Some heels have the disadvantage of not providing enough arch support, so add to the shoes what the manufacturers leave out.

Change them up. Put on a different type of shoe every day. Wearing heels too often can make the experience more painful. Give you feet a break from heels at least two or three days out of the week. They will thank you for it.

How to Get the Stink Out of Leather Shoes

Leather shoes easily absorb odors, especially when they become wet. While leather shoes look stylish, they often absorb odors like the smell of smoke and sweat. A few methods exist when it comes to removing the unpleasant odor from leather shoes. Often leather shoes will need to be dried out before you can clean them to remove odors. Common household cleaning products will help to reduce and eliminate the foul smells that your leather shoes have absorbed.

Instructions

Let the shoes air out. If you just wore the leather shoes, your sweat has more than likely saturated the shoes. If the shoes become wet, they will also have a strong odor. Place them at room temperature between 70 and 95 degrees F and avoid direct heat.

Remove the odor with distilled vinegar. Fill a spray bottle with one part water and one part vinegar, and spray the solution inside and outside of the leather shoes. Wait 10 minutes, and then dry the shoes off with a washcloth.

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of baking soda into each shoe. Allow the baking soda to set overnight, and turn the shoes over the next day to tap the baking soda out. If you worry about exposing your leather shoes to the baking soda, place 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the toes of two old socks. Tie the socks in a knot and place them into each shoe. Leave the shoes to set overnight.
