How to Make Black Pointe Shoes

Pointe shoes are the shoes worn by ballet dancers that allows them to pull off many of the extremely difficult, yet elegant maneuvers that the dance often requires. There are times when the color of your pointe shoes needs to fit in with the rest of the requirements for the performance's costuming. If you don't have black pointe shoes, but you need a pair to dance, then you can modify a pair that you already have.

Instructions

Clean the pointe shoes. Since pointe shoes are essentially made of cloth and glue you shouldn't use water but you should attempt to get rid of all scuffs and dirt marks that you can find in them. Use an eraser or a commercial cleaning agent meant specifically for pointe shoes.

Color the pointe shoes black. There are several methods that you can use. Cloth markers will color the satin, as will cloth dyes if you're comfortable working with dye. You can also apply black powdered makeup to your pointe shoes. The makeup will get into the satin and render them with a matte black finish.

Try your pointe shoes on and see how well the coloring took. Wait until the dye or ink is dry and make sure you're in an area that can be cleaned up easily in case your shoes leave a residue behind.
