How to Make Your Own Velcro SwitchFlops

Some women may dream of having a different pair of matching shoes for every outfit, but they probably also despair of having enough closet space in which to store them. With Lindsay Phillip's idea, conceived as part of a high school project, you may come closer to that dream than you ever expected. SwitchFlops allow you to change the straps to match different outfits. You can make your own version of these shoes to express your own style.

Instructions

Measure the straps of your sandals from the toe space at the center to one edge of the sole. Add 1/2 inch to the measurement.

Cut two pieces of hook-and-loop tape and two pieces of ribbon or trim to match your measurements.

Fold the ribbon over 1/4 inch on each end. Secure the hems with fusible web and the iron.

Embellish the ribbons with beads, appliqus or other decorations, as you choose.

Glue or stitch the hook portion of the Velcro to the wrong side of the ribbon.

Glue the loop portion of the Velcro to the top of the shoe's straps.

Smooth the ribbons onto the straps.

Glue a flower, bead or button to an earring back. Repeat with the other clip.

Clip the focal piece at the strap intersection.
