Of the many types of shoes in the world, one of the most widely known and easily recognized is the clog. This shoe has lost some of its popularity in modern times, though it is still worn in some parts of the world. It has applications in industry jobs, the arts, as well as everyday comfort.

Materials

Clogs are typically made with a wooden sole. Sometimes the entire shoe is made of wood, while other times the whole shoe, except the sole, is made of tough leather.

Identification

Clogs are closed-toed shoes that are simple in design, with a smooth surface. They have no backs or have only a short lip at the rear of the shoe.

Clog Dancing

Clog dancing is popular activity, especially in Wales. Dancers wear clogs with special tap heels, though they are made to sound differently from traditional tap shoes.

'70s and '80s Fashion

During the 1970s and 1980s, the Swedish-style clog became a fashion statement for both men and women. They were worn without socks and usually chosen by people in "alternative" lifestyles.

'90s Fashion

During the 1990s, elevated clogs became all of the range. They were worn by women as an alternative to the typical flat sandal or flip-flop.
