How to Change a Shoelace

Shoelaces are essential to the form and the structure of sneakers and oxfords. Shoelaces have a tendency to get dirty and they need changing. You can change your shoelaces to personalize your shoe or to make your shoes look like new. When you buy new shoelaces, they come in a pack in two and can be washed in a washer and dryer.

Instructions

Pull out the dirty or worn-out shoelaces from your shoe. If the shoelaces are slightly dirty, you can wash them in the laundry. If they are worn beyond repair, you should purchase new shoelaces.

Measure the shoelaces you just removed with a ruler or measuring tape and purchase new shoelaces the same size.

Place one end of the lace through the bottom left eyelet on your shoe; continue by placing the other end through the bottom right eyelet. The eyelets are the holes that are located on either side of the tongue of the shoe. Pull the lace across so the lace ends are even. It should create a line.

Lace the shoe with the remainder of the shoelace. Push the right end of the lace into the next left eyelet and the left end of the lace into the next right eyelet, creating a crisscross pattern. Continue lacing up until the lace is through all of the eyelets.

Put on your shoe and pull both ends of the lace to get a snug fit on the shoe. Tie the lace ends in a bow.
