How to Make Faux Boots

Boots can be one of the most expensive shoe purchases in your wardrobe, especially if you're interested in a leather look. Create faux boots at home using pants already in your closet or pick up an inexpensive pair from the thrift store. Faux-leather or matte-vinyl pants are great to mimic the look of a leather boot. With a few cuts from a pair of scissors, pant legs can be turned into boot fronts and slipped over a pair of flats or heels, depending on what style boot you would like to achieve.

Instructions

Lay the pants out on a flat surface, front side up. Use the scissors to cut across the pant legs. The higher up you cut, the longer the boots will be. Over the knee is a good starting length, as the pant leg always can be folded down to create a shorter boot look.

Use the scissors to cut a wedge into the outside pant seam near the bottom of the pant leg. The wedge should be 1-2 inches from the bottom of the pant leg.

Place the desired shoes on your feet, and step into each pant leg. The wedge will fit into the heel of the shoe, creating a stirrup for the shoe to hook onto. The inside pant seam will run down the front of your leg.
