How to Cut a Heel on a Shoe

Many sources confidently conclude that the process of cutting the heel of a shoe can end in disaster. Cutting the heel could result in the shoe losing its comfort and its natural balance. Shoes manufactured with corresponding heel and toe sections ensure that changing these measurements even by a few centimeters could make the shoe excruciating to wear. Use care when trying to cut the heel of a shoe--or shoes; you can't cut one but not the other--and only use the appropriate tools. Don't cut more than 1/4 or 1/3 of an inch.

Instructions

Measure how much of the heel you want taken off with the tape measure and mark the spot with a light cut from the utility knife.

Place the shoe sideways on a flat, hard surface with the heel hanging off.

Turn on the jigsaw and slowly cut through the heel of the shoe, removing the desired length.

Rub the sandpaper against the newly cut heel, creating a smooth surface. Sand down the toe section of the shoe if necessary to ensure the shoe sits naturally on a flat surface.

Repeat the process with the other shoe of the pair.

Put on the freshly altered shoes and walk normally to confirm that the alterations have been successful.
