How to Color Suede

When your suede shoes' and boots' color has started to wear out, dyeing them is a method of covering the damage or completely changing their look. Leather dye is essential for this task, as it is the only material which can remain firmly attached on suede and also produce a smooth and even color. Since leather dye comes in a variety of colors and shades, this is also an opportunity to create matching footwear for your new clothes, if you don't have the budget to buy new shoes, or just test your creativity in fashion.

Instructions

Clean the suede shoes thoroughly before dying. Use a multipurpose suede brush to wipe the suede leather once. Spray suede with a leather and conditioner product before spraying it for a second time.

Hold an iron five inches above the boots and let the steam reach the suede. Ensure steam only heats the suede and no water falls on the boots. Rub the boots for the third time to ensure the suede is ready to receive leather dye.

Apply leather dye on the suede with the dye brush. Be careful to apply the color with gentle strokes, leaving an even, smooth color.

Allow the first coat to dry for two hours and repeat the process to cover the boots completely with their new color.

Let the boots dry for two to three hours and rub them with the multipurpose suede brush to make the nap -- the soft, raised surface of the suede -- come up.
