How to Fix a Flip-Flop

Flip-flops are popular footwear during spring and summer months, but they have a tendency to break. Flip-flops are made of thin plastic and foam. Wearing flip-flops every day or excessively bending and twisting them will result in breakage. Toe thongs -- the vertical piece between your toes -- can pop out and ruin your shoes. Broken flip-flops often mean a taking a trip to the garbage can; however, before you throw them out, try a simple fix for your summer footwear. Follow the proceeding steps and save those flip-flops for at least another season.

Instructions

    1

Remove the flip-flop from your foot and flip it upside down. Press the toe-thong back through the prefabricated hole on the underside of the shoe.

    2

Position the sharp point of a large safety pin perpendicular to the bottom end of the toe-thong. Push the safety pin through the toe-thong. Wiggle the pin around to widen the hole. Remove the pin.

    3

Push one end of a shoelace through the hole. Tie a tight knot in one end of the shoelace. Pull the lace tight so that the knot is flush against the toe-thong hole.

    4

Tie a second knot flush against the opposite side of the toe-thong. Cut off the remaining lace. Walk around in the flip-flop to ensure the toe-thong is now repaired and resecured to the sole.
