How to Take Dirt Off My Shoes

Nothing is more discouraging than purchasing a new pair of shoes only to have them covered in dirt after a few hours of wear. Tossing the shoes in the washer is a quick solution to this problem, but many types of shoes will disintegrate during the machine's harsh spin cycle. Manually removing dirt from a shoe's surface no matter what the material is a more effective way to clean and preserve your favorite pair of kicks.

Instructions

Tap the soles of the shoes together over a garbage bag, newspaper or outside. This will remove the majority of loose dirt from the shoes.

Set the shoes onto a piece of newspaper. This will make for an easier clean up.

Rub the outside of the shoes with a stiff, plastic scrub brush. Use a back and forth motion and periodically tap the shoes against a hard surface to remove any loose dirt.

Wipe off leather, suede and satin shoes with a dry cloth. Canvas shoes can be wiped down with a wet cloth.

Remove any smaller, difficult dirt stains with a nail file. This method is also effective for use on suede as it will not damage the delicate surface.
