Leather is an attractive and versatile material. While leather stands up well to weather and dirt, it does scuff and get minor scratches over time. If youve noticed your leather boots or shoes starting to look a little old and damaged, bring back the shine they had when you first bought them with a homemade leather cleaning solution. You can spend much more on professional leather cleaners, but give the homemade solution a try first as it contains many of the same ingredients youll pay for at a shoe store.

Instructions

    1

Mix 4 tablespoons of linseed oil with 2 tablespoons of distilled white vinegar in a small dish. Dip the edge of a clean, lint-free chamois cloth into the dish.

    2

Rub the mixture onto your boots where the scratches and wear exist. Rub the cloth gently in circular motions, mixing the oil thoroughly into the surface. Let the mixture sit on your boots overnight or for at least 12 hours.

    3

Use a clean portion of the first chamois cloth to wipe the surface of your leather boots where you applied the conditioning solution. Take a second chamois cloth and squirt 1 teaspoon of petroleum jelly onto the cloth.

    4

Rub the petroleum jelly into the surface of the leather with the cloth. Buff the surface of the boots with a dry, clean portion of the cloth for about 10 minutes or until they shine. Quickly run the cloth back and forth across the surface of the boots.
