How to Lace Layered Converse

The layered converse are a pair of Chuck Taylors with not one, but two layers of fabric and grommets, giving the look of one shoe placed into another. Lacing these shoes can look a bit overwhelming, but taking one set of laces at a time will give you a perfectly laced layered converse.

Instructions

Take all laces out of both shoes.

Staring with the inner set of cloth and grommets, insert the lace into the two holes closest to the toe box, from the outside to the inside of the shoe. Straighten the lace so that the lace lies completely flat across. Pull both sides of the lace upwards and ensure both sides are equal to each other in length. This will help prevent difficult tying at the end of the lacing process.

Lace the left lace through the first right-side hole from inside of the shoe to the outside. Pull the lace taut, and untwist any part of the lace that has become twisted.

Lace the right lace through the first left hole, smoothing the lace and pulling it upwards from the inside of the lace hole.

Continue lacing, alternating laces up until you reach the hole closest to the ankle, smoothing the lace as you go.

Pull the laces gently until they are smooth. Tie the laces together under the tongue of the shoe or in a bow.

Lace the set of outside grommets using the same method, tying the lace at the top or knotting it and tucking it under the tongue.
