How to Measure Heel Size

Measuring your heel size in dress shoes or pumps helps you determine what heel size is needed in replacement shoes. Women usually have a collection of heels that vary in height depending on which dress pants, jeans or dress they are wearing. If the pumps have a heel that is too short when wearing a formal gown they will cause the gown to drag on the floor and create a tripping hazard. Measuring the heel size correctly enables you to purchase shoes to wear with certain outfits without the need to wear your heels while you shop.

Instructions

Place the shoe on a flat surface like a table or countertop.

Place the tip of a tape measure on the surface next to the heel of the shoe.

Stretch the measuring tape up to the top of the heel where the shoe seam meets the heel. Read the measurement and round it up to the nearest half-inch. This is the height in inches of your high heel shoe.
